Hi, I attended Carmel High School in 1984 for was there for only that year. I spent all my summer's as a kid in Carmel Valley with my Grand Parent Ruth and Cecil Spring. My Mom graduated from Carmel Highschool in 1966 (Linda Spring) and my uncle (Gary Spring) in 1964.
1984 at Carmel High School was a great year. Some of the names have faded but two of the top of my head who where very good friends that year, where Jon Schnal and Kathy Irwin. Kathy and I ran track that year together. Jon And I lived a great adventure that summer of chasing girls and driving his Mom's Fire Bird all over the coast.
Anyway, please feel free to contact me.
I am married and own my own business doing custom sports uniforms for High School and Colleges. My web site is: www.johnpandrews.com

I attended Sunset Elementary School until shortly after the beginning of WWII. My dad was enployed at Del Monte Golf Course. I also caddied there. When the hotel came under the control of the Navy my family moved to Los Angeles "for the duration" of the war. Had I remained in Carmel I should have been part of the class of '47.
My parents purchased lots at 3rd and Torres, I believe, with the intent of eventually building a home there, but we never returned. I have lived in L A area 'til this day aside from some time I spent in the Air Force. I have returned the the peninsula many times to attend motorsports races and the Monterey Jazz Festival. I continue to visit Laguna Seca three or more times each year. I plan to return in July and August for motorcyle and vintage car races. Last year I looked in the phone book and the name "Wermuth", called and spoke at length to Del or Ray, who remembered me. We both laughed when he said it was easy to remembered me since I was the only black in the school at that time. I have several class pictures on the back of which my mother wrote names and recognized some. A lady in the school district office gave me some information including a list of alumni from the class of '47. I recognized several names but I did not find Martin Katz, whos mother, Anna, had a shop on Ocean Avenue, and who became a "Grand Ma Moses" kind of artist in the September of her years. Several others I recall: Dickie Frolli, who moved to King City; Henry Moltini, and Elizabeth (Ginger) Klein, the Gorham sisters. It's only been 60 years. Where did everyone go?

Michael,
I really like the Memory Lane section of the main web site:
http://carmelhighalumni.org/ I am hoping that others will share stories about their CHS experience. It is hard to get today's young people to understand tradition. CHS has a rich and storied history that needs to be shared, preserved and captured. Please invite all alumni on my behalf to share any historical notes, construction notes, or information about anything that happened during their years as students. Could be that a tradition was started and remains to this day. I would like to know. As always...thanks for your hard work. Karl Pallastrini '64, current CHS Principal

Hey Michael: I saw a reference to the website on the Classmates.com site. It is great to see a class list that is more or less complete. I am a Carmel native, having been born at Carmel hospital, (which is now a convalescent home), went to Woods School on Dolores St., Middle School and CHS. Both my brother Dana Booth and my sister Lauren Booth Merrill went to these schools too, altho my sister went to York School for 9th-12th grades. We just had our 30th reunion last July and I saw a copy of your newsletter. Also Dick Lawitzke gave me a copy (his daughter and I were best friends at school and still keep in contact.) Do you know how hard it is to write 'Dick' and not MR.? He taught me how to drive, for crying out loud!! :) Anyway, the newsletter is alot of fun and I am looking forward to reading up on all things CHS. Thanks again for helping to keep the memories alive, Carmel was such a special place to grow up in.

I have worked as a writer for the past two years, haven't gotten pregnant or married, but have acquired seven tattoos and some interesting piercings. Still trying to make good on my pledge to outshine the rest of my classmates. Only six more years until the 10 year reuinion, and I'll be waiting to fulfill the yearbook prophecy that I'll shock you all. Hey, at least I'll still have my figure.

Inspired by Buzz Rainer's freshman and senior English classes, I went on to Mills College to major in English, then took my new BA to New York to work in publishing. Loved the job, hated the city, missed California, so I returned to write for 11 years for a San Rafael legal publishing house. After working evenings and weekends for many of those years on a master's degree in anthropology, I liquidated my assets and fled the country for Paris. Home once again after a few months, I began an editorial job on the UC Berkeley campus, where I remain today. My husband and I spend weekends in Sutter Creek, where we will move once we retire.
